The natural beauty of Gabriola Island can provide you with tranquility of body and spirit: an opportunity to recharge your creative energies so you can move forward in your writing practice, guided by a fellow artist skilled in listening to the deeper intentions of the writer.
The relationship between writer and mentor flourishes in an atmosphere of profound respect and trust, for each other and the writing process itself. My aim is to provide a variety of ways in which each writer can define the method of working that best suits the individual. Whether you are looking for ways to overcome a block or to polish a manuscript, to find stimulation in a group or to dive into a one-on-one analysis of a work-in-progress, we will create a program designed especially with your concerns in mind.

The pace here is slower than it is in the city: there's room to enjoy the changing of the seasons, to let a few ferries go by while you watch the heron along the shore, the deer beside the road, the sheep in the meadows.A twenty-minute ride from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, Gabriola retains its native charm, with abundant wildlife co-existing with a year-round population of about 5,000 people, including descendants of 19th century settlers side by side with urban refugees in search of a place where community still means you can leave your doors and your car unlocked. The community has become known as the Isle of the Arts, home to first-class artists in almost every discipline, from jewellery to woodcarving, pottery to painting, where professional performers present everything from comedy to Shakespeare, musicians play everything from classical to folk, and writers and illustrators produce work in every genre - romance, mystery, children's books, fiction and nonfiction, spoken word and haiku.
