Building our House

In the Picture above we are digging the area where the footing for the bearing walls will be located. The gravel piles you see on the right-hand side are carried up from the river by all with "Manpower"

On the right you see we are building one of the walls. The "hollow blocks" were made one at the time ( about 2000 )by my brother in law.
Again all the material is carried by hand from the river below.

We finished the walls, ready for the roof trusses. I made braces for the windows and doors, which will be installed after the roof is completed.
Because here in Benguet we do get earthquakes, we have to put a lot of rebar in the concrete pillars, which hold the structure together.

Here we are building the roof trusses.
Local lumber is cut from the Pine trees
, which grow on the local mountains.
We used plywood for the plates, which hold the parts together.
After all the trusses were finished we had o lift them on the house.
We invited some neighbours, to help us with this and with the promise of a party afterwards we had lots of help !

We hired a local roofing contractor put a steel roof on and we were very happy with the result.
