VOLUNTEERS:

Our volunteers are over the age of 55. When interviewed, after application to join our program, they are asked to undertake a basic 48-hour training course and commit to ongoing training as offered after that. They also commit to work with us for a minimum of 12 months, providing their personal lives allow for this. All volunteers have had a criminal record search.

After the training, the volunteers are matched with clients and work in
co-operation with the Co-ordinators to see if the match is a congenial one.

The volunteers usually see their clients once a week or more often if agreed to between the client and the volunteer. The time spent with the client is arranged between client and volunteer. A phone call is made before the visit.

Our volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds. They are courageous, reliable people who want to make their retirement years productive.

Ongoing Training

  • Monthly Seminars with guest speakers from community agencies and special organizations.
  • Review of counselling techniques and enhancement of various sections of the training.
